Den-Arnysis
From EnorisWiki
The Den-Arnysis (IPA:/dɛn.ɑɹn.aɪ.sɪs//) were the first extra-system species found by the Enorisian Empire, by a Gemtir scouting party, and their discovery is generally considered the mark of the beginning of the Second Era. They are a fairly intelligent, bipedal, humanoid species that have a unique exoskeletal body structure. This exoskeleton is very thick, very dense, and black; it is capable of withstanding multiple shots from a ballistic weapon. Their sleek, bony frame gives them incredible speed and they are relatively strong.
Anatomy
The Den-Arnysis' body is covered by a thick, black exoskeleton and they entirely lack an endoskeleton. Except for their black exoskeleton, they are well adapted to their environment. They have a streamlined and agile body that allows them to move quickly through their desert environment, scaling the cliff faces of the numerous plateaus of Merinou-Saigour with relative ease. This is aided by long, blade-like fingers that are an extension of their exoskeleton. They are capable of digging into cracks and crevices in the rock face, and they provide far superior grip than normal fingers.
The Den-Arnysis body is covered in long, sharp spikes, which are, like their fingers, extensions of their exoskelton, extending in slight angles from the body. This is likely used as a defense system, to make them a less preferable target for any sort of predator. They generally do not impede the movement of the Den-Arnysis but, as they have almost no predators, seems to be a left-over from ancestral species. Occasionally these spikes get broken off, which is often a sign of old age as they get more brittle with time, in which case they will eventually heal over by the exoskeleton, and are not replaced.
Den-Arnysis males normally fall between 6' and 6'3" tall and weigh anywhere between 130 pounds to 175 pounds. Their spikes are generally more angled and promintent, and they have longer arms than the females, reaching down past their knee. Little variation in height and weight occur in females. They are normally around 6'5" tall and weight about 140 pounds. Their arms reach about halfway down their thight, and their spikes tend to curve more than the male's spikes do.
The head of the Den-Arnysis has a surprising amount of variation. Its shape tends to remain similiar from person to person, but other things often change. The Den-Arnysis have an oval-shaped head, tapering downwards, and a flat face that angles backwards slightly. The head too has the spikes, but these spikes vary greatly. The most common occurence of these spikes are ones that are similiar to the one on the body of the Den-Arnysis. They will follow the same tendency as the spikes on their body (being curved or angled, and the degree of which they are curved or angled), but they can also come in spines and quills. Spines are like the spikes, except they are much thinner and more flexible. They extend backwards from the head, angled at about 45 degrees, and move off in a straight path. Spines are generally a variation that occurs in males. Quills are like spines, except they are far thinner and occur moreso in females. Due to them being much thinner, they bend more when than the spines, falling down towards their shoulders.
